It is believed that on the day of Deepawali, King Rama of Ayodhya returned after his fourteen years of exile.

The heart of the people of Ayodhya was filled with joy at the arrival of their dearest king.

In the welcome of Shri Ram, the people of Ayodhya lit lamps of ghee.

That night of the intense black new moon of Kartik month lit up with the light of the lamps. Since then till date, Indians celebrate this festival of lights every year with joy and gaiety.
