The Mahabharata is another major epic in which Hanuman is briefly mentioned. In Book 3, Vana Parva of the Mahabharata, he is presented as the half-elder brother of Bhimsen, who accidentally meets him while on his way to Mount Kailash.

Bhima, a man of extraordinary strength, is unable to move Hanuman's tail, which makes him realize and accept Hanuman's strength.

This story is related to the ancient chronology of Hanuman character. It is also a part of artifacts and reliefs such as the Vijayanagara ruins.
