Ancient Hindu Temple

Kedarnath temple is a famous temple of Hindus located in Rudraprayag district of India's Uttarakhand state. In Uttarakhand, Kedarnath Temple in the lap of the Himalaya Mountains is also one of the Char Dham [a] and Panch Kedar [b] along with being included in the twelve Jyotirlingas.

Due to the unfavorable climate here, this temple opens for darshan only between the months of April to November. It is said about this temple made of stone made of Katyuri style that it was built by Maharaja Janmejay, the grandson of Pandavas. The Swayambhu Shivling situated here is very ancient. Adi Shankaracharya got this temple renovated.

Kedarnath was the most affected area due to flash floods and landslides in the Indian states of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh during June 2013. The houses around the temple were washed away.

The main part of this historic temple and the centuries-old dome were preserved, but the entrance of the temple and the area around it were completely destroyed.
