Makar Sankranti in India

In Bihar, Makar Sankranti is known as Khichdi. Donating urad, rice, sesame, chivda, cow, gold, woolen clothes, blankets etc. has its own importance on this day.

In Maharashtra, on this day all married women donate cotton, oil and salt etc. to other married women on their first Sankranti. There is also a practice of distributing halwa called Til-Gul.

People give sesame jaggery to each other and while giving it they say - "Tiळ gu ghya aani god god bola" that means take sesame jaggery and speak sweetly. On this day, women distribute sesame, jaggery, roli and turmeric among themselves.
