UFC News: Gegard Mousasi Wants To Fight 'Very Talented' UFC Champ Israel Adesanya
Gegard Mousasi has achieved several monumental in his time which makes him a five-time World Champion including the former DREAM Light Heavyweight Champion, former DREAM Middleweight Champion, former Cage Warriors World Middleweight Champion and the former Strikeforce Light Heavyweight Champion.
We saw Gegard Mousasi was made to abandon the Bellator Middleweight World title due to a cerebral cavernoma. Later, Mousasi announced that he would face current Bellator Welterweight World champion Douglas Lima for the vacant Middleweight title at Bellator 243 on 9 May 2020.
Mousasi addressed to MMA Junkie that “He’s very talented,”. “I wasn’t expecting him to have good takedown defense and be so tough. I didn’t really know the guy before, but he rose up really fast. UFC, of course, helped him with bringing him up with good fights and good matchups.”
“He has really good standup,” Mousasi said. “He has good distance and a good feeling of the fight. But of course, I think I can win.”
Gegard Mousasi also praised Israel Adesanya when Adesanya faced Robert Whittaker in a title unification bout on 6 October 2019 at UFC 243. He won the fight via knockout in the second round to become the undisputed UFC middleweight champion.
“He did it,” Gegard Mousasi said to MMA Junkie “He popped a very tough (Robert) Whittaker (to win the title). He’s very deserving of where he’s at, to be honest.”
